Language Technology Kendra (Nepali:भाषा
प्रविधि केन्द्ऱ) is
Non-Profitable and Non-Governmental organization devoted to Research
& Development of Linguistic and Computational aspects of Languages
residing in Nepal. Its was initiated to centralized Research &
Development of Local Language Computing. LTK also maintain Local
Language Standards Development by Standardizing Keyboard and Collation,
Fonts and Unicode.
LTK's mission is to build Local Language Computing and Applications in
the Academia, Industries & Government.
The general objectives of LTK is to improve Digital Literacy by
overcome language barrier by developing Computing in context of
Nepalese languages. It also aims to raise current level of
technological support for the Nepalese Languages and draw development
policy and benchmark for effectiveness of multi-disciplinary research.
LTK is formed by representing a consortium of three organizations with
equal standings.
- Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya (MPP)
- Tribhuvan University (TU), Central Department of Linguistics(CDL)
- Kathmandu University (KU), Department of Computer Science & Engineering (DoCSE)
The research potential in aspects of Languages in Nepal is enormous, as very little work has so far been done in this field. The project will also continue to further mature the language technology in the Nepalese languages.
